Emmanuel, you are so loved! Emmanuel is compassionate and creative, smart, and loving. We are grateful to God for giving him to us. We celebrated his 9th birthday this week. It seems like yesterday that he born here in Nyankunde and now he is 9! What a blessing it was to have missionary friends visit and the company of his Congolese friends. What a rich life he is living here in Ituri...learning about fixing things, climbing trees, learning French, taking care of animals, and making things like mahogany toilet seats!
The day before his birthday he came down with malaria, poor guy. Emmanuel wanted to have a party anyways, so we did. He wanted a coconut cake...coconuts we have plenty of but less egg whites and other things required in coconut cake. So we settled for making a candle hidden in a coconut and fresh coconut shavings. It was memorable.
Emmanuel is finishing up his malaria cure and even gave himself his own Artusinate injection (with assistance of course)! Somehow it feels better to have a little control over what is happening. He is a brave boy!
